Stars and stripes you can feel
Pockets empty somewhere every night, and usually it's whatever flat surface is closest. This catchall gives that pile a place: 9.5 by 6 inches of solid hard maple or American black walnut, with an American flag cut into the floor of the tray deep enough to feel by hand. Named for the river that starts as snowmelt in Rocky Mountain National Park and goes on to carve the Grand Canyon.
Cut, not burned
The flag isn't laser-etched onto the surface. It's physically carved into the floor of the tray, so every stripe and every star has real depth and a hard edge to it. Carving instead of burning also means no charring and no soot worked into the grain, and the engraving runs deep enough that it won't wear away under keys and coins the way a surface mark would.
Sized for what's in your pockets
At 9.5 by 6 inches it takes a wallet, keys, a flashlight, and whatever else comes out at the end of the day without any of it stacking. Perfectly sized to sit at the corner of a desk or the end of a dresser without taking over the surface. It ends up wherever you already empty your pockets: by the door, on a nightstand, beside the keyboard.
Oiled, not stained
The color is the wood's own. No dyes, no stains, no pigment of any kind, just a penetrating furniture-grade oil that cures into the fiber instead of sitting on top of it. Hard maple stays pale and close-grained. American black walnut runs deep brown with darker streaks through it. Either way, the grain belongs to the board it was cut from, so no two trays read quite the same.
