This has been designated a butcher block as it is heavier, larger and thicker than our normal cutting boards. While our cutting boards are available in both end grain and edge grain, our butcher blocks are end grain only so as to provide maximum functionality and a superb working lifespan to the discerning chef.

This is an extremely unique piece. It has been made from a single, solid live edge slab of Bolivian Rosewood. Outside of arranging the wood from the slab in an end-grain orientation to improve kitchen use, and softening jagged corners, all efforts have been taken to preserve the natural curves and shape of the live edge slab. You expect the ridges on the sides to be uneven, as they were only softened, and carry their original unevenness from the live edge slab.

Please note, The lighter color wood on the edges is NOT a different species or glued on. This is an inherent part of the live edge slab. It is called the cambium, and it sits between the heartwood and the bark of all trees.

The cutting board has been finished with a soaking of cutting board oil, followed by a lathering of our signature wood butter. Purchasing this piece automatically includes a free tin of wood butter, and care instructions to enable you to enjoy this butcher block for a lifetime of use. Non-slick, USA made clear rubber feet have been attached to four corners of the bottom.

Specifications:

  • Made in Colorado by Kineo Mountain Woodsmithing
  • Made from a single, solid live edge slab of Bolivian Rosewood
  • Dimensions of 16.5" x 12.5" x 2.125", height of 2" excluding feet

Raising the grain before hand, helps ensure that when wood comes into contact with water, it will remain smooth instead of becoming rough.
